In exploring what we recognize as a face, examining how we evaluate
the elements to determine personality, we may arrive at a greater understanding of who and what we think we are.
We look at a face not only to understand something of the person wearing it, but also to better understand
all the elements of the surroundings we see reflected in it - including ourselves.
The media used are:
Acrylic, Charcoal, Oil, and Pastel, all rendered on paper.
Trying to find the most essential elements that make a person, a plant, even a sense of space and time.
These paintings explore the position of humans with the rest of the universe. People are as fragile and as transitory as
any other living matter.
One can view all life involved in an intricate dance, a perpetual motion of energy and matter continually shifting balance.
The media used are:
Acrylic, Charcoal, Oil, and Pastel, Chinese Ink all rendered on paper
While not pretending to understand the original intent of these Glyphs, I have painted some of the images, hoping
to share some sense of this remarkable space/time to people who will probably never experience them in person.
All of the most ancient stories from the most ancient peoples we know about mention people who were before them.
The media used are:
Acrylic and Oil. Rendered on paper and canvas.
When painting a scene that really exists, the project goes beyond getting the lines and colours in the correct places.
To capture this, in some small way, rewards both painter and onlooker.
These paintings are an attempt to preserve and share some of the magic of these momentary experiences.
The media used are:
Acrylic and Oil. Rendered on paper and canvas.
For thousands of years masks have been used to celebrate festivals and events.
People use masks to communicate with gods and spirits and to remind or remember specific traits or tendencies in human interactions.
These clay humanoid figures evolve, forming individual character or personality from the clay itself - archetypes all with each one unique.
The media used are:
Clay, Paper Mache, painted with Oil and Acrylic.
What a person perceives of an experience is only a small fraction of what their senses have received.
This process is easy to see as one looks at an abstract collection of colours, and the the mind finds a
name - an object or experience a bit like the colour/shape with which to identify it.
Different minds will choose different names - what name matters less than the fact that some name was required
The media used are:
Acrylic and Oil, all rendered on canvas.
